SGA-Young Scientists Award

Every year, the Swiss Society for Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology (SGA) honours the special achievements of young scientists who have written an outstanding master’s or bachelor’s thesis on a subject of interest to the Society with the SGA Young Scientists Award. The award is also intended to provide recipients with the opportunity to present their work to a broad audience at the SGA’s annual conference.

First prize is worth CHF 800, second prize CHF 400 and third prize CHF 200. Prize-winners will also receive a year’s free membership of the SGA.

A three-page abstract must be submitted to apply for the SGA Young Scientists Award. A template can be found here. In addition, the complete master's or bachelor's thesis must be submitted as a pdf. Submissions may be made at any time, although the deadline for the each year is 15 January. Please send all documents to the following email address: office(at)sse-sga.ch. Self-nominations are possible.

The documents submitted will be evaluated by a jury. In addition to two members of the SGA Board of Directors, Prof. Dr. Martin Odening (Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany) and Dr. Sandra Contzen (Bern University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland) serve on this jury.

The following criteria will be used in the evaluation: i) scientific quality, ii) originality, iii) relevance, iv) presentation.
